Xiaomeng “VKLiooon” Li defeated Brian “bloodyface” Eason with 3:0 in the Hearthstone Global Finals at BlizzCon this weekend.
She has become the first-ever Global Champion from China, and also the first woman who has won the Hearthstone Global Finals. Also, she was the first woman to qualify for the Hearthstone Global Championship after she’d won the Gold Open Tianjin Master Group Season 1 Playoffs. She’s had an amazing run of 10 tournament victories prior to this final.
At the beginning of the tournament, she defeated Chen “tom60229” Wei Lin, the 2017 World Champion, with 2:0. Then, the 23-year-old was better than Chris “Fenomeno” Tsakopoulos; the result was also 2:0. This win earned her a spot in the semifinals. There, she defeated Kevin “Casie” Eberlein in a tight match with 3:2 and reached the Finals. In the finals, she was better than Brian “bloodyface” Eason.
This was a very emotional moment for her, and she couldn’t stop her tears of joy. In the post-match interview, she shared an anecdote about something that happened to her two years ago. She was competing in a huge tournament, and as she was waiting in line for back-up signups, there was this guy who told her that “if you’re a girl, you shouldn’t wait in line here, it’s not for you.”
"I want to say for all the girls out there who have a dream for esports competition, for glory, if you want to do it and you believe in yourself you should just forget your gender and go for it," VKLiooon went on saying. She also thanked all the fans for their support and the people who made this tournament happen.
Xiaomeng “VKLiooon” Li went home with the title of Hearthstone Global Champion and a prize of $200,000.
Congratulations to VKLiooon on her amazing achievement!
