Retro Games That Came out in the Last Decade - Part Two

All the fans of retro gaming, if you’re bored with all those older games that came out in the ’80s and ’90s, here are some of the newer video games that have that retro vibe we all enjoy so much. Have in mind this is not a top list, I just put these games in chronological order of their release dates.

Maybe these games can bring back some childhood memories, one of my least favorite ones being dead legs because I used to sit on them for too long. Other than that, they’re all good.

Enter the Gungeon

Enter the Gungeon is a pixelated fast-paced bullet hell roguelike game that was developed by Dodge Roll and published by Devolver Digital in 2016. Enter the Gungeon follows four adventurers as they descend into the Gungeon in search of a gun to kill their past.

The game is set on a planet called Gunymede that’s inhabited by the living bullets. Deep in the fortress, the gun that could kill the past is protected with the highest security measures. The adventurers must find a way to breach the fortress and get to the gun that can erase all of their past regrets.

Mother Russia Bleeds

Another game published by Devolver Digital in 2016, this time developed by Le Cartel Studio. It is set in an alternate, 1980’s Russia ruled by the Soviet Union, where four “Gypsies” were kidnaped by the government and were taken to an underground lab as guinea pigs for the concoction of an addictive drug, Nekro.

Mother Russia Bleeds is a side-scrolling beat ‘em up-styled game where players fight stage-by-stage levels. Some enemies will start convulsing when killed, players can fill the syringes with blood from their corpses and use it for healing or going into berserk mode, which adds speed and strength.

Cuphead is a run-and-gun indie video game developed and published by Studio MDHR in 2017. The most special thing about this game is the rubber hose style of animation which you might recognize from the 1930’s Walt Disney cartoons.

You play as Cuphead, or both Cuphead and his brother Mugman in multiplayer, on the fictional Inkwell Isles. They lost the bet to the devil and made a deal with him to save their souls. Now they have to collect the “soul contracts” that signify devils ownership of the souls of his debtors.

Developed and published by Aleksandar Kuzmanovic Games Inc., Unworthy is a hardcore combat-focused Metroidvania without jumping released in 2018. You take on the role of a warrior, risen from the grave, in search of the meaning of his existence. Travel through a bleak and hostile world, fight creatures of nightmare and prove your worth.

DUSK is a retro-styled first-person shooter developed by David Szymanski and published by New Blood Interactive in December 2018. It takes place around the fictional rural town Dusk where a huge underground network of “Lovecraftian ruins” is discovered.

Scientists and military personnel established research labs in an attempt to harness the magic of the ruins, and they all fall to the demonic possession. You take the role of a nameless treasure hunter “DuskDude” who came for the riches and now has to escape from the robed cultist, demonic livestock, scarecrows, and possessed soldiers.

Project Warlock

Project Warlock is a first-person shooter developed by Buckshot Software, released in 2018. If you are a fan of Doom, Hexen or Wolfenstein, you are sure to enjoy this one. You play as a Warlock trying to stop demons invading from hell. Battle through 60 levels against bloodthirsty enemies and bosses.

Now, the only thing that’s left for you to do is to give these games a try and see which one of them you liked the most, and of course, check GameBuz, PC, Console, and Mobile games news site.
