A new game overview trailer for Marvel’s Avengers has been released. It provides us with a deeper dive into Marvel’s Avengers gameplay, story, AIM narrative, mission variety, Super Hero customization, and much more. Except for the trailer, there is a very lengthy PlayStation blog post that goes into many details of the game.
We learn about the story of the game, with which we are already pretty familiar. Long story short, after being blamed for the catastrophe that destroyed San Francisco, the Avengers are forced to disband. A new organization arises - Advanced Idea Mechanics or AIM - which promises to protect the world, but actually has a much sinister plan.
Then, we see Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, the playable hero which has been introduced recently, as she sets on a quest to expose AIM's anti-hero conspiracy and help the Avengers reassemble.
Then, we learn that the helicarrier serves as your base and it gets upgraded throughout the story. You can choose between two types of missions: Hero Missions and Warzone Missions.
Hero Missions are single-player only and are part of the campaign. These missions are designed to showcase each hero’s unique abilities.
Warzone Missions can be played solo or with a group of up to four players. Each mission dynamically scales based on the team size and player level.
Players in Marvel’s Avengers will also be able to customize Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in a number of ways. While each Super Hero will play true to their unique power sets, each will have the flexibility to play different based on the gear you equip and the skills you enable.
Each hero has dynamic combo systems, Heroic moves, an intrinsic ability, and signature move sets to unlock and customize. You’ll also be able to customize these iconic Super Heroes with classic, fan-favorite, and all-new original outfits inspired by over 80-years of Marvel history.
You can either unlock new outfits and suits as you play or buy them. In the blog post mentioned above, Noah Hughes, Studio Creative Director at Crystal Dynamics is quoted saying that there will be "no loot boxes, no pay-to-win, you’re not going to be paying money to beat the game or be better at the game". So, these items are not going to affect gameplay in any way.
To ensure a heroic experience for all players, Marvel’s Avengers narrative will progress over multiple years with every new post-release Super Hero and region delivered to players at no additional cost if you own the core game.
Play the beta first on PlayStation 4. Marvel’s Avengers game is set to be launched on May 15, 2020.
