Tempo Storm has picked up professional and Asia-Pacific Grandmaster Wai Chung Ng ‘blitzchung’, expanding its reach into another notable Hearthstone scene.
The signing adds to Tempo Storm’s already-impressive roster, consisting of William Barton (“Amnesiac”) and Ryan Murphy-Root (“Purple”) predominantly in the Americas division of Hearthstone.
Ng, a Hong Kong native, is by now well known, both within and outside of esports, due to the news coverage of his statements in support of the region’s protests and his subsequent 6-month suspension by Activision Blizzard as a result.
"It has been my dream to be a part of Tempo Storm and I am excited to join the team, as it is one of the best in Hearthstone,” Blitzchung noted on him joining Tempo Storm, “I had been thinking about whether to continue my Hearthstone career in the past few weeks. Since I haven't reached my professional goals yet, and I don't want to fall by the wayside, I will start competing again after I am unbanned.”
Due to the ruling, blitzchung cannot compete in official Blizzard professional events, so his addition to Tempo Storm provides support at a critical time to a prolific player. During his period of ineligibility in official Hearthstone events, he expects to increase his streaming presence and will continue to train and represent the brand abroad.
Andrey Yanyuk, CEO of Tempo Storm and a former Hearthstone professional talks about the significance of this signing, “We believe first and foremost in supporting players and encouraging them to engage and to speak out on the things about which they are most passionate. In many ways, we value the character and integrity of our players as much as, if not more than, their tournament placings. blitzchung brings incredible talent, an infectious personality, and a great deal of enthusiasm, for Hearthstone as well as his community and others around him. He exemplifies what Tempo believes in, and we welcome him as an ambassador for our brand.”
