Everybody just loves grandmas, sweet little old ladies that make you chocolate chip cookies every time you come for a visit. Well, have you met this one? If you did then I don’t have to tell you how messed up this granny is, but if you didn’t, go pay her a visit and see for yourself what a lovely lady she can be.
Granny is an indie horror game created by DVloper, originally released for Android but later came out for iOS, and a PC port that’s released via Steam platform. It’s a spiritual successor to the Slendrina series.
As you open your eyes, you find yourself in a strange room. Apparently, Granny has locked you inside the house and it seems like her favorite game is "hide and seek", how fun. Your main objective is to get the hell out of that place.
Controls are pretty easy, you move around using control stick, you can pick up and drop things, stand or crouch. When you drop or knock something over she will hear you and come after you in a matter of seconds. Depending on the difficulty you chose in the beginning Granny can be faster or slower, she might also have some minion rats, and the house can be much darker as if dimmed lights can be romantic in this house.
You have 5 days to escape, 6 if you collect all the pieces of painting and put it together, the front door has many lock mechanisms and you have to find a way to open them all. Another possible way to escape is to fix a car in the basement.
Look out for beds and cabinets for hiding. In the first minute of my gameplay, I dropped a vase on the floor not knowing how quickly Granny would come to look for me. I hid under the bed when she walked in, she stood right beside the bed and for a moment I felt relief because I thought she didn’t notice me. Right. She dropped on the floor in a push-up position and scared the barnacles out of me.
Items needed for all sorts of puzzles are spread all over the place, you can even find a crossbow with tranquilizing darts or parts of a shotgun you can assemble. When you shoot the Granny she will be gone for a few minutes, just enough time for you to breathe for a while.
There are so many hidden rooms and corridors with so many nasty things you wouldn’t expect to find in an old lady’s house. On the upper floor, she has a pet spider. You would imagine that we had a pleasant meeting as giant spiders tend to be extremely friendly. I found a letter from a person that was trapped here before me, blood in a few places, I even found something that looked like a human thigh in a smokehouse.
If you fail to escape, there are 3 different endings. In one of them, she throws you in the basement then jumps on you going for your face with her teeth. Oh, you must be so cute, she could just eat you up. In second, you are strapped against a garage door and she presents her driving capabilities, closeup. In the third version, Granny will show you how her shiny guillotine works nicely as your neck accessory.
Considering her hospitality, I bet all of you reading this can’t wait to spend a weekend getaway in her company. I, myself, have written this review in a safe place, under the table at GameBuz, PC, Console, and Mobile game news site after I checked it out to be sure there are no grandmas here.
