It has been just over a year since the Epic Games Store launched and Epic Games is happy to announce the milestones they have passed.
Epic released an infographic showing off how to year went. So far, the Epic Games Store has 108 million customers who have spent $680 million. You probably guessed it, most of that money was spent on Fortnite, while $251 million was spent on third-party games.
Next up are the free games. Epic Games has given away 73 different games for free to users and more than 200 million were claimed. They also plan on continuing to give users free games throughout 2020.
They didn’t share any specific stats about games, but they did point out the most popular ones. The top nine are World War Z, Satisfactory, Dauntless, Untitled Goose Game, The Outer Worlds, Borderlands 3, Metro Exodus, The Division 2, and Control. With more announced for 2020.
One of the things they are also pushing for is cross-platform play, offering developers help in doing so through the system they created for Fortnite that connects PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, iOS, and Android. So far, Phoenix Labs is the first to use this system in Dauntless, uniting PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch gamers.
A very nice piece of information is that more cross-platform games using this system will be coming in 2020.
Finally, they shared a short message about their plans for 2020, “In 2020 we’ll continue to lead the way in open and developer-friendly store terms, with 88% revenue sharing, support for developer and publisher payment systems, and keyless purchasing integration with Humble (more PC stores coming soon).”
