Doom Remake 4 is a compilation of mods that completely overhauls Doom and turns it into a modern game. It was released last year, but a new Experimental Edition is now available and it makes it even more amazing.
Doom Remake 4 turns sprite-based items and enemies into actual 3D models. Obviously, 3D models don’t mean much without the accompanying HD textures and PBR materials. For the less tech-savvy, PBR materials are physically based materials, which means their interaction with light is a lot more realistic.
The base game itself is actually completely the same, no tweaks were made to maps, weapons or enemies, it just makes Doom look beautiful.
The aforementioned Experimental Edition pushes it even further and uses the PBR materials to their maximum. Fair warning, it is resource hungry and you will need a higher end PC to run it well.
It’s definitely something worth trying out and while you download it, why not continue reading about mods?
