Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is in the spotlight these days. With only two weeks until its launch, the new details about the game are being revealed almost on a daily basis. Recently, the launch trailer has been published, and now there’s a new trailer which shows us something all the CoD fans have been waiting for - the return of Special Ops. More precisely, this is the next evolution of Special Ops, according to the trailer.
Activision went into details about Spec Ops in a blog post on its official blog. According to it, Spec Ops start where Modern Warfare’s campaign finishes. Spec Ops mode has been reimagined “as a collection of expansive, interconnected Operations against a new encroaching threat,” as it is stated in Activision’s post. Players will have to form strike-teams of four and execute multi-phased objectives in order to stop a global terror organization and cut its access to weapons, funds, intelligence, and hardware.
The confirmed modes of play are Operations and Missions.
Operations are at the center of Spec Ops. This game mode is a 4-player matchmade activity focused on "interconnected experiences that take the form of objectives, each culminating in the removal or destruction of a key logistical aspect of the Al-Quatala army," according to Activision's blog post. You and your teammates have to work together to complete these objectives.
You have absolute freedom over your actions, and you can approach these Operations in various ways. So, you and your team decide if you want to carefully plan your tactics, or go in guns blazing, for example. The enemy will react to your decisions, act accordingly and do everything in their power to defeat you. Because of this, the outcome of any battle can be different.
It is said that, when the game is released, there will be four multi-stage Operations but that there will be more in the future. All future Operations will be available at the same time for all platforms.
In Missions, you can play on your own or in a team of 4 players. In this game mode, you will have to show how good you are with weapons, killstreaks and other tools. You can replay these missions as much as you want, and you can earn a 1, 2, or 3-star ranking depending on your performance. Also, there will be an “Infinity Ward time” where you are supposed to try to beat the given time.
Finally, as it has already been announced earlier, there will be a Special Ops Survival Mode but only PS4 players will have the privilege to play it until October 1, 2020.
