Activision Blizzard laid off 800 employees, even though Bobby Kotick, CEO of the company, has said that they "achieved record results in 2018."
“While our financial results for 2018 were the best in our history, we didn’t realize our full potential,” Kotick stated.
Reports say that the company made $7.5 billion in sales and $1.8 billion in profit last year. But, it seems that earned profit wasn't enough for all employees to keep their jobs.
It can be deduced that the main cause for the firing is the split from the Bungie, leaving the whole teams without work. Everybody that was working on Destiny 2, from public relations to customer support, now don't have a game to work on.
The business future doesn't look that bright to the Blizzard. Besides Warcraft 3: Reforged and World of Warcraft Classic, there are no new titles announced to be released in 2019. Also, the company canceled Heroes Global Championship and Heroes of the Dorm and shifted some of the best developers from Heroes of the Storm to other projects.
