Announced only a few days ago, the launch event for the Nintendo Switch version of Overwatch, in NYC, was canceled by Blizzard, which is probably a smart move.
Back on October 9, a launch party for Overwatch was announced. It was going to be organized at the marquee Nintendo store in New York City. The characters’ voice actors were also supposed to show up and talk to fans. In general, it was supposed to be a fun event for fans to celebrate the Switch version of Overwatch launching.
Although, Blizzard got itself in some hot water (That's an understatement) and they probably realized that the event wouldn’t go so well. So, the October 16 event was canceled and the news was announced by Nintendo on Twitter.
The launch party might be canceled, but BlizzCon is in two weeks. If you check online, you will quite quickly notice large groups organizing protests, attendees thinking up questions to ask during the Q&A to put pressure on Blizzard, and so on.
It’s going to be an interesting BlizzCon, and we’ll make sure to keep you posted on it. Until then, why not take a look at:
• Blizzard trying to get out of the mess they made,
• or Blitzchung responding to the event?
