Blizzard Back-pedals on Hearthstone Grandmasters Fiasco

After almost a week of chaos, Blizzard has backpedaled on their decision. ‘Blitzchung’ will receive his winning and his suspension was shortened to six months.

J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment, has commented on the companies’ decisions in a public statement. He claims that the punishment had nothing to do with the content of the pro players message, but instead the disruptiveness of the comment.

The specific views expressed by Blitzchung were NOT a factor in the decision we made. I want to be clear: our relationships in China had no influence on our decision. We have these rules to keep the focus on the game and on the tournament to the benefit of a global audience, and that was the only consideration in the actions we took. If this had been the opposing viewpoint delivered in the same divisive and deliberate way, we would have felt and acted the same.” - wrote Brack.

The reason why Blitzchung will receive his winnings after all is due to the fact that he didn’t cheat in any way while playing the game. Meaning that his winnings are completely deserved and they felt that such a punishment wouldn’t be fair.

Besides receiving his winnings, the competitive ban was shortened to six months, instead of a full year.

What do you think, is Blizzard back-pedaling after the international outcry or is this them actually taking a moment to think about what they did? If nothing else, poking fun at Blizzard is fun.
